Ahhh goals, they can be motivating, attainable, satisfying or frustrating, maddening, and tiresome. This month's post is a no frills, how to get stuff done post designed to get you to stop reading posts about goals and start crushing them. It's February and if you're like most, those new year's resolutions are long gone and you've started eating those no-nos on your list and stopped going to the gym (like us), but your business goals can still be going strong with the right mind and skill set.
So whether this year's business goals was to increase revenue, target the right audience, or simply to renovate an already profitable business, goal setting and more importantly the "crushing" of said goals is all about prioritizing down to the bear minimum actions that you need to achieve it and cutting out the "fat", all those busy work actions we think we need to do everyday but don't actually contribute us to attaining anything. While this is probably not what you were expecting, it actually is being done in some of the most profitable businesses around, think Apple and Google. Pick your "one" thing and work it. Crossing off an endless list of to-do's, while mentally and emotionally satisfying, is really counterintuitive to achieving what you really need to be focusing on and ultimately distract your from achieving your goal. So what's your one thing you want to focus on this year? It's a lot less daunting then maybe the laundry list you think you want/need to accomplish. Think about what actions will truly get you to your ultimate goal of having a profitable business and work on them one at a time. Much like Apple focused their goal, their "one" thing, of producing a stellar computer years before branching out to iPhones and iPads. So while there may be several steps along the way to achieve your goal, all your energy and time should be focused on that one thing in order to achieve it, and once you have, set another one and crush that one too.
Here at AA, we're trying to do just that by trying to revolutionize the way businesses think of administrative assistance, it's not just an admin sitting at your office, it could be your outsourced office manager, handling all your operations or a business consultant helping you navigate social media marketing. Our one thing is a lofty one but we're excited to take the necessary steps to "crush it."
